The wines remain reference-points… No one who loves Piedmont wines will want to be without these mind-blowing, majestic Riservas. You know the saying, Barolo is “the wine of kings, the king of wines.” Well, if Barolo is King, Barbaresco is certainly his Queen. The best way to gain an understanding of what this majestic wine is capable of delivering begins with a taste of the historic cuvée and crus of Produttori del Barbaresco. The fabled cooperative of the Langhe Hills dates back to 1894 and allows you to enjoy history, pedigree, and all the nuances of the noble Nebbiolo, produced in a more traditional style. What we appreciate most is that the exceptional value at this fabled address nestled in the Langhe Hills begins with their standard cuvée at just $44.99!
It is true, under the leadership of Managing Director Aldo Vacca, and with a new spacious winery, Produttori del Barbaresco is producing "some of the most distinguished wines in their long history." While innovation and modern winemaking practices have been incorporated, the wines of Produttori del Barbaresco remain classic and dedicated to the terroir of Barbaresco through single vineyard expressions. In fact, they are still the only winery in the entire region that remains solely dedicated to the noble Nebbiolo.
However, while it is the single-vineyard Riservas that garner much of the media attention, IWM remains dedicated to their straight Barbaresco bottling. What you should know about the Produttori del Barbaresco is that the finest vineyards from Barbaresco make up this old world super cuvée, as it is blend from the prized vineyards of Pora, Ovello, Montestefano, Muncagota and Rio Sordo. And as Antonio Galloni noted, "now that most of the wines have been released, the early promise of 2021 is no longer a question of potential but of reality. These are vivid, exceptionally beautiful wines that show the heights Nebbiolo can reach."
As for the very special release from Produttori and the 2016 vintage, it is the "Don Fiorino" Barbaresco Riserva. To highlight this exceptional "vintage of a lifetime," Produttori del Barbaresco decided to make a new expression from their historical cru vineyards. It is a super Riserva Cuvee, produced with 50% grapes from all of Produttori’s nine famous crus and 50% from other top sites (Basarin, Cottà, Cole, Fasèt and San Cristoforo) and aged longer. Named in homage to Don Fiorno, the priest who founded the winery in 1958, this is the first Riserva of its kind to be released by the cooperative in decades. It has only been produced in 2016, and will also be released with the 2021 vintage. We are presenting the final 30 bottles of the is prized Barbaresco Riserva - that is one of the rarest and most sought-after Barbaresco to be produced.

ADDITIONAL NOTES AND REVIEWS:
“The 2016 Riservas are without question the finest wines I have ever tasted from the Produttori del Barbaresco. No one who loves Piedmont wines will want to be without these mind-blowing, majestic Riservas. Prices remain exceedingly fair, making these some of the most reasonably priced, ageworthy wines in the world. While waiting for those wines to come around, readers will want to have the Barbaresco in the cellar.” – Antonio Galloni, Vinous 2021 Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco Antonio Galloni, Vinous: "The 2021 Barbaresco is a gorgeous, deep wine. Although the aromatics are a bit closed, the 2021 shows gorgeous depth and a touch more palate presence than is typically the case for this bottling. Dark and enveloping, the 2021 will offer a number of years of very fine drinking. It is an impressive, classy wine from Produttori del Barbaresco."
Kerin O' Keefe: "2021 was an exceptional year in the Langhe as is clearly demonstrated by the gorgeous 2021 Barbaresco from Produttori. It boasts beautiful aromas of violet, rose, cake spice and mint that carry over to the elegant palate along with succulent red cherry, crushed raspberry and star anise. Taut, refined tannins and bright acidity keep it impeccably balanced. Made from blending Nebbiolo from different vineyard sites, this is the firm’s classic Barbaresco and is one of the greatest values in Italian fine wine."
2019 Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco Christopher Deas, Italian Wine Merchants: "Traditionally styled Nebbiolo from Barbaresco that showcases its signature grip, vibrancy, and savory quality that makes this classic Produttori. You can expect nuances of sour cherries, strawberries, citrus, tea, a touch of leather, brown spice, dried flowers and herbs. Let this wine breathe to get more of that pure and bright fruit to show through from the 2019 vintage. What’s not to like if you love Nebbiolo!”
Antonio Galloni, Vinous: "The 2019 Barbaresco is a gorgeous wine to drink now and over the next 15-20 years, give or take. Sweet, floral and open, the 2019 offers lovely brightness and energy to match its mid-weight, nervy feel. Sweet dried cherry, mint, crushed flowers and savory notes all grace this soft, understated Barbaresco from the Produttori." 2016 Produttori del Barbaresco "Don Fiorino" Barbaresco Riserva Jeb Dunnuck: “The 2016 Barbaresco Riserva will be available later this spring. It is introspective at the moment. Although it is concentrated with licorice, fresh black cherry, cedar, and black pepper. It is a more brooding wine but retains its style, with leather, red plum, and balsamic, and as it opens it shows more fresh apricot. It is going to be a wine to hold onto and or drink over the coming two to three decades.” (5/2023)
Kerin O'Keefe: “A new edition to the winery’s already impressive lineup, the gorgeous Produttori del Barbaresco 2016 Don Fiorino Riserva stuns with its impeccable class, structure and youthful tension. Made with 50% grapes from the Produttori’s nine famous crus and 50% from other top sites (Basarin, Cottà, Cole, Fasèt and San Cristoforo), it boasts aromas and flavors of ripe raspberry, star anise, cake spice and almost salty mineral notes. An ode to the the parish priest who united 19 growers in 1958 and created the Produttori del Barbaresco cooperative, it’s linear, precise and still youthfully austere. Aged for thirty months in 15hl French casks, it’s extremely well balanced, with firm, refined tannins and fresh acidity." (5/2023)
