Just Arrived. A True “Baby Ornellaia” from the Vaunted 2019 Vintage. It’s First Growth Super Tuscan Pedigree at 1/4 the Price! The Finest Since 1997 - Challenging 2016? Best Price - 48 Hours Only... No doubt about it, many collector eyes are back on the highly-anticipated 2019 Super Tuscans with the debut of Sassicaia, and past wines such as Guidalberto and Le Volte selling out quickly. We are now back once again preaching the merits of the newly arrived 2019 Le Serre Nouve. That’s correct, our final allocation has arrived. Over the years, and on a trip to the fabled Bolgerhi estate, we had coined the phrase for the younger sibling as “Baby Ornellaia – delivered at a fraction of the price of the Super Tuscan First Growth sibling.” Well, with the 2019 Le Serre Nouve at $54.99 - it truly lives up to the IWM pen name and more. In fact, with the 2019 release, we find it to be the most “Ornellaia-like” since the inaugural release. Well, you have heard us scream about it before, while there is Valbuena from Vega-Sicilia at $150+ and Les Forts from Latour at $250+, for myself and the IWM team, there is no comparison; the second and third wines of Ornellaia and Sassicaia have no rivals on a price-to-quality ratio department! When you see the second wines of these iconic Bolgheri estates for under $55, you simply jump on them, which is exactly what we did when we were offered an a dramatically reduced allotment of the 2019 Le Serre dell’ Ornellaia. It is simple – 2019, it is shaping up to be a benchmark vintage for Tuscany with rumors swirling on perfection for the Grand Vins of Bolgheri! And like the 2019 Le Volte, and 2019 Guidalberto for that matter, the wine and vintage remains classic, but with a little more flesh and weight when compared to 2018. The Tuscan patriarch did everything right, once again, showing off its Mediterranean flare of fruit generosity with its signature touch of salinity and character. This is another classic wine from a classic vintage that best captures the terroir, and we could not agree more with these strong words and well-deserved high ratings on what we call a “baby Ornellaia.” For those keeping score, it is the highest-rated release next to 2016 and 2006. This is a taste of the iconic Super Tuscan at ¼ of the price for what is one of the greatest values in wine! It should be noted that this is a wine that commands $80 dollars elsewhere. Thanks to some astute buying from the current market conditions, we are able to pass along some additional savings on this small allocation. We have been waiting on this final allocation for some time and they have just arrived - ONCE THEY ARE GONE, THEY ARE GONE, and we say arrivederci to one of our favorite expressions of this IWM signature and move on to the warmer 2020s. We say, carpe diem! NEW ARRIVALS: Overachieving Value from Ornellaia and the Super Tuscan Icons. ADDITIONAL NOTES AND REVIEWS: 2019 TENUTA DELL'ORNELLAIA LE SERRE NUOVE. $74.99 regular $54.99 special (6+ bottles). Christopher Deas, Italian Wine Merchants: “How do you surpass the performance of our best-selling 2018 Serre Nuove? How ‘bout the slightly more flamboyant 2019 Serre Nuove! That is right, the 2019 packs on a little more flesh and texture, while remaining classic. We find it to be the complete and balanced Serre Nuove from the past couple of vintages, whereas the 2020 will clock in a little heavier, and 2018 more retrained. More importantly, it is another little Le Serre Nuove that punches well above its class. In fact, for the 2019 release, this is the closest we have seen this “baby” come to sibling Ornellaia. There is palate coating fruit followed by awesome tension and persistence on the finish. Let this wine breathe an hour or more, and you can expect the signature nuances of ripe black cherry, wild berries of red and black, anise, plum, citrus, savory dried herbs, pencil shavings, and a taste of the salty sea air. It is the perfect everyday Super Tuscan with a touch of royalty and Mediterranean flare that overdelivers. This a wine that can command $80, and at under $60, we once again say, count me in! Buyer beware, we just received a mere twenty cases and are fighting for more. These wines will sell out.”
Monica Larner, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate: “A blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, the 2019 Bolgheri Rosso Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia shows a greater degree of focus and detail compared to the previous vintage that I tasted at the same time. This wine reveals the sharp contours and etched character of the Cabernet Franc, especially with black licorice and black pepper. The results are linear and pure. Elegant fruit notes of blackberry and dark currant add to the thick layering of the wine.” This is DAILY offer!
