The 2022 Ca’ Marcanda Magari is a vibrant and stylish Bolgheri red that reflects the warmth and richness of the vintage while retaining the estate’s signature balance and polish. A blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot, Magari is fermented in stainless steel and aged for 12 months in mostly used French oak barrels. The wine opens with expressive aromas of ripe black cherry, blueberry, graphite, Mediterranean herbs, and a touch of licorice and spice. On the palate, it is medium- to full-bodied, with velvety tannins, bright acidity, and a sleek mineral core that brings freshness to the ripe fruit. Ca’ Marcanda is the Bolgheri estate of the legendary Gaja family, one of the most influential names in Italian wine. Founded in the late 1990s after years of negotiations to acquire the property—hence the name Ca’ Marcanda, or “house of endless negotiations”—this estate marks the Gaja family’s first foray outside their native Piedmont. Located in the coastal Tuscan region of Bolgheri, Ca’ Marcanda focuses on Bordeaux varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc, planted on two distinct soil types: dark clay-rich terre brune and lighter terre bianche with limestone and gravel.
