For IWM, the biodynamic Casa Raia Brunello di Montalcino is a nice departure from some of the deeper, richer, more dark-fruited Brunellos we have been featuring. This is a more classic, saline and red fruit-driven expression, courtesy to a more organic approach in the vineyards and the cellar, as well as their four-hectare vineyard plot located at 370 meters altitude on Alberese limestone rock. With aeration you can expect nuances of red cherries, cranberries, licorice, wild herbs, brown spice, underbrush, with a touch of saddle leather and sandalwood. This is exciting Brunello that combines biodynamics with innovation and old world winemaking.
