The 2015 Château Rauzan-Ségla is a beautifully poised, seductive Margaux from a vintage marked by generous ripeness and impeccable balance. The blend is primarily Cabernet Sauvignon, with Merlot and small portions of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, aged for 18 months in French oak barrels (about 60% new). The warm and dry 2015 growing season yielded wines of aromatic richness and supple tannins, and Rauzan-Ségla crafted a wine of great finesse and detail. The bouquet offers layers of blackberry, blackcurrant, violets, graphite, crushed rose petals, and sweet cedar. On the palate, it is medium- to full-bodied, with velvety tannins, vibrant acidity, and a seamless texture that glides toward a long, perfumed finish. The wine is expressive and approachable now with decanting, yet structured enough to age effortlessly over the next 20–30 years. A benchmark Margaux from an exceptional vintage, pairing beautifully with duck breast, veal chops, or mushroom-stuffed ravioli.
Château Rauzan-Ségla, a Second Growth (Deuxième Grand Cru Classé) in the 1855 Classification, is one of the crown jewels of the Margaux appellation. Located in the heart of the Médoc, just south of Château Margaux itself, the estate dates back to the 17th century and has long been celebrated for its finesse, aromatic elegance, and aging potential. Since its acquisition by Chanel in 1994, Rauzan-Ségla has undergone a renaissance under the direction of Nicolas Audebert (formerly of Krug and Cheval des Andes) and oenologist Eric Boissenot, with major investments in both vineyard management and cellar technology. The estate’s 70 hectares are planted mostly to Cabernet Sauvignon, with Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc on deep gravel soils that define classic Margaux. The wines reflect a balance of precision and sensuality, combining structure with floral lift and textural finesse—hallmarks of great Left Bank Bordeaux.
