The 2022 Château Smith Haut Lafitte Blanc is a stunningly expressive and textural white Bordeaux, showcasing the brilliance of the vintage and the estate’s mastery of white wine production. The blend is typically dominated by Sauvignon Blanc, with small amounts of Sémillon and Sauvignon Gris, harvested by hand and vinified in a mix of new and used French oak barrels, with bâtonnage to enhance mouthfeel. The 2022 vintage brought warm, dry conditions, resulting in excellent ripeness while preserving freshness in the whites. Aromatically, the wine bursts with notes of grapefruit, white peach, lemon curd, fresh herbs, flint, and toasted almond. On the palate, it is full-bodied yet refined, with bright acidity, layered minerality, and a creamy, saline finish that lingers with remarkable tension and precision. Drinkable young for its energy and aromatic lift, it also has the structure to age beautifully for 10–15 years. A reference-point Pessac-Léognan Blanc, ideal with lobster

Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte Description

Château Smith Haut Lafitte is a leading estate in Pessac-Léognan, known for producing both red and white wines of exceptional character and quality. With origins dating back to the 14th century, the estate rose to prominence in the late 20th century under the ownership of Daniel and Florence Cathiard, who acquired it in 1990. Their investment in biodynamic farming, cutting-edge vinification, and meticulous attention to detail has elevated the château into the top tier of Graves. The white wines of Smith Haut Lafitte, in particular, are considered some of the finest dry whites in Bordeaux, admired for their aromatic intensity, layered texture, and age-worthy structure. The estate’s vineyard sits on deep gravel soils over limestone, ideally suited for both Sauvignon Blanc and its blending partners, and all work in the vineyard is done by hand with a strong commitment to sustainability and biodiversity.
