The 2022 IDDA Etna Rosso is a vibrant, expressive red wine made primarily from Nerello Mascalese, Etna’s signature variety, with small amounts of Nerello Cappuccio. Sourced from high-altitude vineyards on the volcano’s cooler southern slopes, the wine is fermented in stainless steel and aged in large oak casks to preserve freshness and enhance textural depth. The 2022 vintage shows exceptional balance, offering lifted aromatics of red cherry, wild strawberry, rose petals, orange zest, crushed herbs, and volcanic ash. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and finely structured, with silky tannins, bright acidity, and a mineral backbone that adds tension and length. The wine carries the elegance and finesse of Burgundy with a distinctly Sicilian soul—ethereal yet earthy, refined yet grounded. While approachable now, it has the structure and purity to age beautifully over the next 10–15 years. A brilliant match for grilled lamb, mushroom dishes, or Sicilian caponata, IDDA Etna

Gaja, Angelo Description

IDDA is a visionary joint project between Angelo Gaja, one of Italy’s most celebrated winemakers, and Alberto Graci, a leading figure in the Etna wine renaissance. The estate is located on the southern and southwestern slopes of Mount Etna, where vineyards range between 600 and 800 meters above sea level, rooted in mineral-rich volcanic soils. “IDDA” means she in Sicilian dialect—a name that refers reverently to the volcano itself, viewed as a living, breathing entity. The project combines Gaja’s legacy of precision and site expression with Graci’s intimate knowledge of Etna’s terroir and traditional grape varieties. The wines are produced from organically farmed, high-elevation vineyards and are crafted with a light hand in the cellar, allowing the distinct volcanic personality of the mountain to shine through. The IDDA wines reflect energy, purity, and a deep sense of place—hallmarks of this extraordinary landscape.
