The 2020 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Vide Bourse is a powerful and finely sculpted Chardonnay from a small, prized premier cru that borders the great Bâtard-Montrachet. Vide Bourse is known for producing wines with depth and intensity, and in the warm but balanced 2020 vintage, Joseph Colin has crafted a wine of exceptional detail and drive. Joseph Colin is one of the most exciting and dynamic names in modern Burgundy, part of a winemaking dynasty that includes his father Marc Colin and brother Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey. After working for years at the family domaine, Joseph established his own estate in 2017, based in Saint-Aubin, with vineyards across some of the Côte de Beaune’s most coveted appellations—Puligny, Chassagne, and Saint-Aubin among them. Farming is done with minimal intervention, often leaning toward organic or sustainable methods, and the approach in the cellar is distinctly Burgundian yet finely tuned: indigenous yeast fermentations, gentle pressing, minimal bâtonnage, and careful use of oak.
