The 2021 Oddero Barolo is a beautifully composed and archetypal expression of Nebbiolo, crafted from a blend of fruit sourced from several of the family’s vineyards across the Barolo appellation. The vintage—cool and slow-ripening—offered ideal conditions for achieving full phenolic maturity while preserving freshness and aromatic precision. After fermentation with indigenous yeasts, the wine is aged for about 30 months in large Slavonian oak casks. The nose opens with textbook Nebbiolo aromas: wild cherry, rose petal, dried herbs, orange peel, and hints of tar and tobacco. On the palate, it is medium- to full-bodied, with firm but finely knit tannins, vibrant acidity, and a mineral core that carries the wine through a long, focused finish. The 2021 shows excellent balance between structure and finesse, making it approachable in its youth with decanting, but built to evolve over the next 15–20 years. A classic, cellar-worthy Barolo—perfect with braised meats, game, or age
Oddero is one of the historic names of Barolo, with roots in the region dating back to the 18th century. Based in La Morra, the Oddero family has long been associated with traditional Barolo production, emphasizing authenticity, terroir transparency, and age-worthy structure. Today, the estate is run by Mariacristina Oddero and her daughter Isabella, who have continued to elevate the winery through a combination of deep respect for tradition and modern precision. The family farms over 35 hectares of vineyards—many of them in top Barolo crus such as Brunate, Rocche di Castiglione, and Villero—all certified organic since 2018. In the cellar, the style remains classic: long macerations, aging in large Slavonian oak casks, and a restrained, elegant approach that favors finesse over flash. Oddero’s wines are benchmarks for classically styled, structured Barolo that ages gracefully and reflects the diversity of the Langhe’s terroirs.
