The 2019 Oddero Barolo Riserva Vigna Rionda is a monumental wine—broad, structured, and deeply complex—capturing the soul of one of Barolo’s most iconic crus. The 2019 vintage offered ideal conditions: a long, balanced growing season with moderate heat and excellent diurnal swings, allowing for full phenolic ripeness and expressive aromatics. The wine undergoes a long maceration and is aged for 3.5 years in large Slavonian oak casks, followed by further time in bottle before release. On the nose, it unfolds slowly with notes of black cherry, dried rose, balsamic herbs, tobacco leaf, iron, and dark spice. The palate is powerful and firm, with tightly wound tannins, vibrant acidity, and a deep mineral core that drives the wine’s long, resonant finish. While it shows flashes of brilliance even in youth, this Riserva is built for the long haul—best approached from 2028 onward, and capable of evolving gracefully for 25–30 years. A commanding and timeless Barolo, ideal for pair
Oddero is one of the historic names of Barolo, with roots in the region dating back to the 18th century. Based in La Morra, the Oddero family has long been associated with traditional Barolo production, emphasizing authenticity, terroir transparency, and age-worthy structure. Today, the estate is run by Mariacristina Oddero and her daughter Isabella, who have continued to elevate the winery through a combination of deep respect for tradition and modern precision. The family farms over 35 hectares of vineyards—many of them in top Barolo crus such as Brunate, Rocche di Castiglione, and Villero—all certified organic since 2018. In the cellar, the style remains classic: long macerations, aging in large Slavonian oak casks, and a restrained, elegant approach that favors finesse over flash. Oddero’s wines are benchmarks for classically styled, structured Barolo that ages gracefully and reflects the diversity of the Langhe’s terroirs.
