Christopher Deas, Italian Wine Merchants: "Tasting this wine with the IWM Team, we all exchanged raised eyebrows, and the first statement that came out was, how can this be ten years old? This is absolutely a game changing expression that will make you rethink Albarino as you know it. It is one of those unique wines that offers a yin and yang experience, with texture and tension. Certainly, those that appreciate Francois Cotat Sancerre, Von Winning Riesling, and dare I say, Raveneau Chablis, will find solace with this standout expression. The wine begins retrained and showing its clean, Green Spain personality, with notes of salty apple, lime, grapefruit component, sea spray, and herbs. With aeration, the wine gains weight and nuances of lycee, honeysuckle, and a touch of mango. A unique Albarino with more complexity that more need to experience. Easily one of the most youthful old wines we have experienced."
Pazo Señoráns, now converted into a winery, is a magnificent example of those XVI century ancestral Galician houses built in the countryside with all the charm and dignity of days gone by. The winery launched its first vintage in 1989. The Pazo and the winery owned originally by husband and wife Marisol Bueno and Javier Mareque (and now in the hands of their four children Marisol, Vicky, Javier and Santiago) began producing wine in 1989, although the estate had already started growing wine-grapes. The origin of the name Pazo Señoráns is unknown: we do not know whether it was the place that gave the Pazo its name or whether the Pazo that gave its name to the place.
