The 2023 Thierry Pillot Puligny-Montrachet Les Enseignères is a brilliant expression of this prized lieu-dit, delivering Puligny’s hallmark precision and elegance with crystalline clarity. Les Enseignères is often considered the most “premier cru-like†of the village vineyards, thanks to its position directly beneath Bâtard-Montrachet, on deep limestone soils with ideal exposition. In 2023—a vintage marked by freshness, aromatic purity, and excellent balance—Thierry crafted a wine that is both detailed and full of quiet power. Fermentation occurs with indigenous yeasts, and aging takes place in mostly used French oak barrels, preserving tension while building subtle texture. The wine opens with lifted aromas of white flowers, lemon peel, crisp pear, crushed stones, and subtle hazelnut, with a touch of flinty reduction that adds complexity. On the palate, it is sleek and linear, with vibrant acidity, a fine-grained texture, and a long, saline finish that echoes the chalky
Thierry Pillot, formerly of Domaine Paul Pillot, has emerged as one of Burgundy’s most exciting young winemakers, especially with the launch of his eponymous micro-négociant label focused on producing precise, terroir-transparent wines from top village and premier cru sites. Having built his reputation in Chassagne-Montrachet, Thierry now applies his thoughtful, low-interventionist philosophy—organic farming, native yeast fermentations, restrained oak use—to small parcels he sources from trusted growers, crafting wines with clarity, mineral tension, and unmistakable energy. While still rooted in the Côte de Beaune, his négoce project gives him the flexibility to explore sites like Meursault’s Narvaux, a lieu-dit just above the premier crus, known for producing some of the appellation’s most chiseled and elegant wines.
