The Chardonnay vines for this village-level Meursault are over seventy years old, and this maturity, combined with an early grape harvest, results in a complex, textured wine that's animated by bright acidity. Grapes ferment with temperature control, and the wine ages in 25% new oak for a year before bottling.

Pernot Belicard's White Burgundies are poised to be the next big thing in Meursault. Philippe Pernot trained at the knee of Meursault great Paul Pernot, his grandfather, and even now, three years after officially establishing his own domaine, Domaine Pernot Belicard, Philippe continues to work with the legendary winemaker. Philippe established Pernot Belicard after marrying his wife and assuming control of his father-in-law's vineyards. However he came by them, Philippe gently and meticulously farms his six-hectare estate organically; he handpicks his grapes at peak maturity; and he never fines or filters his wines. The result are some of the purest, richest, freshest Meursault that IWM has had the great fortune to taste--and to sell. Pernot Belicard's quantities are miniscule, and you'll be hard-pressed to find these terrior-driven, seriously artisanal wines anywhere else.
