The 2021 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is a stunning, site-specific expression of Nebbiolo from one of the most revered vineyards in the Barolo appellation. Located in Castiglione Falletto, Rocche is prized for its steep slope, southeastern exposure, and sandy-limestone soils, which yield wines of aromatic lift, elegance, and refined structure. The 2021 vintage brought a return to classicism, with excellent conditions for preserving acidity and building nuance. Oddero’s expression was fermented with native yeasts and macerated traditionally, followed by aging in large Slavonian oak for about 30 months. The wine opens with a finely detailed bouquet of rose petals, red cherry, orange zest, crushed herbs, and hints of sweet spice and iron. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, with filigreed tannins, vivid acidity, and a long, mineral finish. Among Oddero’s crus, Rocche is often the most graceful and perfumed, with a Burgundian sense of delicacy and clarity. Best enjoyed from 2
Oddero is one of the historic names of Barolo, with roots in the region dating back to the 18th century. Based in La Morra, the Oddero family has long been associated with traditional Barolo production, emphasizing authenticity, terroir transparency, and age-worthy structure. Today, the estate is run by Mariacristina Oddero and her daughter Isabella, who have continued to elevate the winery through a combination of deep respect for tradition and modern precision. The family farms over 35 hectares of vineyards—many of them in top Barolo crus such as Brunate, Rocche di Castiglione, and Villero—all certified organic since 2018. In the cellar, the style remains classic: long macerations, aging in large Slavonian oak casks, and a restrained, elegant approach that favors finesse over flash. Oddero’s wines are benchmarks for classically styled, structured Barolo that ages gracefully and reflects the diversity of the Langhe’s terroirs.
