Bursting with aromas of sweet red berries, peonies, orange zest and spices, Pillot's 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jean Rouge is medium to full-bodied, fleshy and seamless, with a layered, complete profile, melting tannins and a perfumed finish. This parcel is cultivated with a lot of manual work, including "tressage" instead of hedging, representing something of a passion project for Thierry. ~ William Kelley, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The estate was founded in 1900 by former barrel maker Jean-Baptiste Pillot, and was expand by his sons. From 1968, his grandson Paul Pillot and today, it is now run by Paul's children Thierry and Chrystelle, who took control in 2004. There are 13 hectares (32 acres) of vineyards, mostly planted to Chardonnay. The vineyard holdings in Chassagne-Montrachet include several premier crus, led by the La Romanée. Paul Pillot also has plots in two Saint-Aubin Premier Cru vineyards and in Santenay, and makes Bourgogne Aligoté and Bourgogne Rouge and Blanc.
