The 2022 Meursault “Sous la Velle” is a brilliant village-level expression that punches well above its classification. Sourced from a lieu-dit located at the base of the slope beneath the village, on deep, mineral-rich clay and limestone soils, “Sous la Velle” often yields wines with both volume and finesse. In the warm and generous 2022 vintage, Rémi Jobard harnessed the ripeness with precision—harvesting early and allowing for a long, slow aging process in large oak casks to preserve freshness and build texture. In the glass, the wine opens with an elegant, tightly coiled nose of green apple, white peach, lemon curd, crushed seashell, and wet stone, with subtle notes of hazelnut and fresh brioche. The palate is racy and finely etched, showing vibrant acidity and a saline backbone that stretches the wine across the palate. There’s an underlying richness to the fruit, but it’s shaped by Jobard’s signature restraint and mineral clarity.

Fermentations are spontaneous with native yeasts, and aging takes place over an extended 18–22 months, primarily in large-format Stockinger oak foudres rather than traditional Burgundy barrels. This approach minimizes wood influence and maximizes the expression of minerality and site character. The resul
